“It’s a day of happiness and a milestone for us as well because this is the first Chega Municipal Council in history taking office today,” highlighted Ventura, marking the “historic moment” and the “political responsibility” of the officials elected by the party.
“For us, this is a historic moment, and I wanted to note this and be here alongside the local officials to tell them that they have our full support,” he declared, emphasizing the party’s responsibility to demonstrate its ability to govern close to the populations.
The president of Chega pointed out that Entroncamento faces challenges similar to those of the country, namely related to immigration, minorities, management of municipal heritage, combating corruption, and transparency.
“Nelson [Cunha] has this great responsibility; it’s a significant political responsibility. Therefore, it’s a day of great happiness for us, but also a day where the party leader and the party bodies next to their officials demand from them this work of transparency, proximity, and responsibility,” stated Ventura.
The winner of the municipal elections, Nelson Cunha, told Lusa that the moment is one of “great happiness and responsibility” and promised collaborative work and closeness with the population.
“We have to work for the community, and what we want is to present solutions and be the solution for everyone,” said Cunha.
With 37.34% of the votes and three councilors elected, Chega seized the municipality from PS, which governed the council and finished in third place with two councilors. The PSD/CDS-PP coalition finished in second place with two mandates. In the 2021 elections, PSD had three mandates, PS three, and Chega just one.
In the municipal elections on October 12, Chega elected three mayors – Entroncamento, Albufeira (Faro), and São Vicente (Madeira) – and 134 councilors, corresponding to 11.86% of the votes.
“It is a great responsibility to show the country that we can govern close to the populations. I am sure here in Entroncamento that this is going to happen and that we will have a great mandate,” concluded Ventura.
