In keeping with previous years, the Christmas lights inauguration will feature the lighting of the iconic 30-meter-tall Christmas Tree, followed by a light show and a concert by fado singer Sara Correia.
The Lisbon City Council (CML) has announced an investment of 749,500 euros in this year’s Christmas lights, maintaining the budget allocated in 2023 and 2024 under an agreement between the municipality and the Union of Commerce and Services Associations (UACS).
This year, the lights span over a route equivalent to more than three rounds around the city, exceeding 182 km in length and spread across 46 locations, including squares, streets, and avenues, featuring about a thousand light structures, composed of 5,900 decorative pieces.
According to the city council, the LED technology project “ensures an energy saving of approximately 80%, combining beauty and sustainability.”
“The 2025 lights strengthen Lisbon’s environmental commitment, including the use of recyclable and biodegradable materials, with many structures being reused from previous years. There is also an emphasis on solar energy use in installations,” stated a note from the Lisbon City Council.
The iconic Rua Augusta will, according to the municipality, be “adorned with luminous trees and clouds flowing above passersby, and the Praça de Luís de Camões will gain new life with a monumental installation inspired by a festive palace, a meeting point for photos and unforgettable moments.”
In Rua Garrett, “golden light clouds will float above the street, Rua do Ouro will feature golden clouds and twinkling stars promising to transform this avenue into an enchanting firmament,” while in Rua do Carmo, “a sequence of light arches will create a luminous tunnel where light and music will merge.”
