“The investment we have recently made in the clinic in Figueira da Foz, in this new unit, amounts to approximately 11 million euros. It became evident to us that the city deserved this investment and the local population would justify it,” emphasized Pedro Beja Afonso, administrator of Hospital da Luz in Coimbra and Aveiro.
The Hospital da Luz Clinic in Figueira da Foz opens today in new facilities, housed in a modern building on Rua Rancho das Cantarinhas, near the José Bento Pessoa Municipal Stadium.
In statements, Pedro Beja Afonso explained that Luz Saúde has been present in the Figueira and Coimbra region since 2018, following the acquisition of Idealmed.
“Figueira da Foz already has a Luz Saúde clinic, but we understood that this unit needed an upgrade, greater clinical robustness, and the provision of more examinations for its patients. This was only feasible by constructing a new building, and from today onward, we have an extraordinary infrastructure in Figueira da Foz that will make a significant impact on the city,” he stated.
The new unit features a comprehensive imaging center, offering services such as magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasounds, mammographies, and CT scans (computed tomography), CBCT (cone-beam computed tomography), and X-rays.
It offers an extensive range of consultations across various medical and surgical specialties, with the capacity for over 100 specialty examinations and laboratory tests.
“We will offer open consultations without the need for scheduling, providing a different response to those seeking our services. Additionally, we are strengthening our entire medical team, offering more examinations in ophthalmology, gynecology, urology, and otolaryngology, and we will introduce new specialties not previously available in the city,” he informed.
Among the new specialties are maxillofacial surgery, nephrology, and hematology, with the addition of a minor surgery room to enable a variety of small surgical procedures, significantly impacting people’s daily lives.
“The proximity response for the population of Figueira da Foz and its surrounding municipalities will be greatly enhanced, and I believe this will make a difference for both the resident population and tourists visiting this part of the country,” he added.
The new clinic in Figueira da Foz operates in an integrated manner with Hospital da Luz Coimbra to ensure, when necessary, “continuity of medical-surgical care and an effective response to all types of clinical situations.”
Meanwhile, the area of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is linked with Hospital da Luz Clinic in Gala, a unit opened in March of this year, fully dedicated to physiotherapy and sports medicine programs and treatments.
Pedro Beja Afonso also mentioned that a unit is under construction in Leiria, “which will also feature imaging, gastroenterology, and an operating room” and “will make a difference in the healthcare services offered in that area.”
“In Aveiro, we are also developing a new clinic closely connected to the already existing Hospital da Luz Aveiro. Hospital da Luz Aveiro needed to expand and increase its offerings, and we found a space where we are building a modern clinic with a range of services for the local population that will make a difference and allow for restructuring of the existing Hospital da Luz in Aveiro,” he concluded.
