Hotel group Aman launches its first unit in Southern Africa in Mozambique

The Aman Group has made its debut in Sub-Saharan Africa with the launch of a new luxury hotel in Mozambique, as announced by the country’s President during the inauguration of the Karingani & Pomene project in the Massingir district. This initiative is a collaboration between the international group and Karingani Game Reserve.

The President highlighted the event as a “historic moment in Mozambique’s tourism journey.”

Aman Group, originally known as Aman Resorts, is a high-end multinational tourism company established in 1988 by Indonesian hotelier Adrian Zecha, headquartered in Switzerland. The company operates luxury resorts in countries including Thailand, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Morocco, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, India, the United States, and Turkey.

Daniel Chapo described the investment as marking the beginning of a “transformative” tourism project in Mozambique, noting that the group has over 38 luxury hotels across more than twenty countries.

Chapo emphasized that Mozambique’s selection for the establishment among multiple global destinations signifies “a vote of confidence” and sends “a clear message” that the country is now a “land of opportunities” internationally, offering a secure environment for high-level investments.

“Your decision to establish the first Aman brand hotel in Sub-Saharan Africa at Karingani honors Mozambique and positions us on the map of the world’s most exclusive destinations for the most prestigious tourists,” he said, adding that the decision reflects the group’s vision to operate in “sensitive” locations in collaboration with local communities.

The project extends beyond luxury hospitality, according to Chapo, and aims to be “a legacy of inclusion.”

“Besides employing over 300 workers already, it has created more than 400 jobs, established six water supply systems, constructed sanitation facilities, provided agricultural equipment, and sent 23 young people from local communities to South Africa for training in hospitality and wildlife management,” he explained.

During the ceremony, the Mozambican President invited national and foreign investors, along with local communities, to “embrace” this “historic” opportunity, aiming to build national economic independence through “inclusive and sustainable” growth where everyone contributes.
