Severe weather once again affected the country this Saturday, particularly in the Greater Lisbon area, where Loures and Odivelas municipalities were hit hardest.
Between 12:00 PM and 8:00 PM, the Greater Lisbon sub-regional command of the Civil Protection registered approximately 120 incidents in these municipalities due to heavy rainfall.
“We registered around 120 incidents. The numbers are not yet finalized as teams are still on the ground,” a source from the command informed, noting that around 400 personnel and 96 vehicles from fire and municipal civil protection services remained in operation.
The source further explained that “all incidents involved flooding in public roads or homes,” with no reported injuries.
Additionally, the national road 8 remains closed between Loures and Póvoa de Santo Adrião “due to a sheet of water.”
Earlier, Hugo Santos, the sub-regional commander of Greater Lisbon, stated that heavy rain caused the Trancão River to overflow in the Flamenga area in Lisbon, leading to road closures and the need to rescue people from their vehicles.

The intense rain that fell this afternoon, especially in the neighborhoods of Odivelas and Loures, necessitated the removal of some individuals from cars in the Flamenga area, according to Civil Protection.
