Housing. “Government announced exactly what Chega had proposed”

André Ventura, the leader of Chega, criticized the government on Sunday, accusing it of making zigzag decisions and leaving only promises.

In Ansião, in the district of Leiria, Ventura highlighted that some proposals were championed by Chega, particularly concerning tax deductions in housing.

“About nine months ago, Chega insisted on lowering the IRS tax for those who earn less rather than more and increasing housing deductions. The government argued that it was a demanding measure, accepting our IRS reduction but not the housing deduction,” Ventura stated, adding, “Now, the government has announced exactly what Chega proposed, just as elections loom. It’s our proposal, and I hope the prime minister acknowledges that it involves increased tax deductions for housing.”

Ventura mentioned that this was a key point Chega stressed in meetings with the government, especially during discussions with the prime minister. “It was Chega that proposed this, and it was one of the most emphasized points in our meetings with the prime minister,” he said.

Ventura further criticized the government’s actions, suggesting that the head of government, Luís Montenegro, was out of touch with the “real country” and did not understand the needs of the people. “Sometimes they say Chega’s proposals are good, other times they don’t,” he remarked.

“The government doesn’t know what it wants, but approaches elections trying to show it’s doing something. People are growing tired of it, and that’s why Montenegro is also growing tired – because what he promises doesn’t happen,” Ventura argued.

“He’s a prime minister increasingly out of sync with the reality of young people, housing rents, immigration, and the country in general,” Ventura criticized.

Ventura also accused Luís Montenegro of being “out of touch with reality” when speaking of a moderate rent of 2,300 euros, noting that many were “very troubled” by the prime minister’s statements.

Ventura was also questioned about Spinumviva and the return of the controversy, as well as statements made by the head of government on the matter, but he stated that he had not followed what Montenegro said on Saturday.
