The president of Iniciativa Liberal, Rui Rocha, emphasized on Friday that “housing is an essential good and should not be taxed like a yacht, as a luxury item”.
Responding to the electoral program of the AD-Coalition PSD/CDS, Rocha noted in statements to SIC Notícias that “the times” are “very complicated” and insisted on the need for “a modern state, a state capable of meeting the future needs of the Portuguese”.
“The program seems to be less ambitious in terms of IRS [personal income tax] and, for instance, in a housing measure that Iniciativa Liberal advocates, which is the reduction of VAT on construction because we are experiencing a crisis,” he remarked.
The IL president reaffirmed that “housing is an essential good and should not be taxed like a luxury item,” highlighting that his party proposes “a concrete, more ambitious measure.”
“It seems to me that, in this regard, AD falls considerably short of Iniciativa Liberal’s ambitions,” he stated.
The electoral program of the AD-Coalition PSD/CDS was presented by the president of the PSD, Luís Montenegro, on Friday.
