How many hours do the Portuguese work? More than the EU average.

“In 2024, the average weekly working hours for both full-time and part-time workers aged between 20 and 64 in the EU, in their main job, was 36.0 hours, down from 37.0 hours in 2014,” the report states.

Eurostat notes that a “closer look” reveals “notable differences” among various countries.

In 2024, the longest working weeks were recorded in Greece (39.8 hours), Bulgaria (39.0), Poland (38.9), and Romania (38.8).

Conversely, the Netherlands had the shortest working week (32.1 hours), followed by Denmark, Germany, and Austria (each at 33.9).

In Portugal, the working week stands at 37.5 hours, which is above the EU average.
