Hundreds of people march in Lisbon for women’s health and safety

“The current state of sexual and reproductive health in Portugal is absolutely devastating and unacceptable. Women find themselves giving birth on the street, without conditions, giving birth at the doors of hospitals, and we are here not only because of domestic violence but also for all forms of gender-based violence against women,” stated the spokesperson for the initiative, Dejanira Vidal, at the start of the March for the End of Violence Against Women.

The march, attended by men and women of all ages, commenced around 7:00 PM to mark the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, with a gathering at Largo do Intendente.

Participants carried banners with messages such as “End impunity for aggressors” and others defending women who are victims of aggression.

The demonstration, featuring chants like “an attack on one is an attack on all” and the sound of drums, proceeded towards Martim Moniz and concluded at Rossio.
