“Hygiene and safety”. ASAE seizes more than 205 kg of sausages

The Food and Economic Safety Authority (ASAE) announced on Monday that it seized over 205 kilograms of meat products and sausages during a national operation aimed at the inspection and official control of foodstuffs.

In a statement to the press, ASAE noted that the operation focused on the commercialization of meat-based products, aiming to identify fraudulent practices likely to mislead consumers. This included the labeling, traceability, origin, and composition of the products.

The action, conducted by various regional ASAE units, paid special attention to hygiene and food safety conditions in retail establishments. These included delicatessens, gourmet stores, butcher shops, minimarkets, supermarkets, hypermarkets, and ancillary sections where these products are stored, handled, or produced.

Approximately 80 economic operators were inspected, leading to 20 administrative offense proceedings.

Among the violations identified, ASAE highlighted the lack of mere prior notification for carrying out economic activity, the distribution, preparation, and sale of meat and its products in violation of applicable hygiene and technical standards, non-compliance with fair information practices rules, absence of records related to traceability systems and procedures, lack of processes based on HACCP principles, failure to indicate mandatory mentions in food products, among others.

As a result of the operation, more than 205 kg of meat products and sausages were seized due to a lack of required specifications and the absence of information records related to the traceability systems and procedures of foodstuffs.

ASAE also seized 19 liters of food products for failing to indicate mandatory remarks and two weighing instruments.
