
Traffic on the Complementary Itinerary 33 (IC33) in the Grândola area of the Setúbal district resumed at 18:24 today, nearly two hours after a road collision that resulted in 10 injuries, two of which were serious.
The Alentejo Litoral Emergency and Civil Protection Sub-Regional Command reported at 19:00 that road circulation had been restored, alternating on just one lane.
The accident, involving four cars and first reported at 16:34, occurred at kilometer 43.5 of the IC33 in the Grândola area.
The Civil Protection source indicated that the incident resulted in 10 injuries, with two individuals in serious condition.
One of the seriously injured was airlifted to Hospital de São José in Lisbon, while the other was taken to the Hospital do Litoral Alentejano (HLA) in Santiago do Cacém.
Some of the eight minor injuries were also transported to HLA, while others were taken to the Basic Emergency Service (SUB) of Alcácer do Sal.
The rescue operations involved firefighters from Grândola, Santiago do Cacém, Vila Nova de Santo André, Sines, and Alcácer do Sal, the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), and the GNR, totaling 38 personnel supported by 17 vehicles and a helicopter.
On-site resources included the Santiago do Cacém medical emergency and resuscitation vehicle (VMER), the Alcácer do Sal immediate life support ambulance (SIV), and the INEM helicopter based in Évora.
