Rui Rio, the former president of PSD, took to social media on Friday to comment on the controversial legal case involving comedian Joana Marques and the musical duo Anjos.
In a post on the social network X (formerly Twitter), the former deputy decided to make light of the situation.
“If Joana Marques is sentenced to pay compensation for her humor, it seems to me that, recalling my recent past, I might become richer than Musk,” wrote Rui Rio, referring to the owner of Tesla and Space X, who is the richest man in the world.
Singers Nélson and Sérgio Rosado, who make up the duo Anjos, are demanding over one million euros in damages from the comedian for posting a video on social media in April 2022. The video showed the two brothers singing the national anthem in a montage with excerpts from the program ‘Ídolos.’
Se a Joana Marques for condenada a pagar uma indemnização pelo seu humor, dá-me ideia que, recordando o meu passado recente, ainda poderei ficar mais rico que o Musk. 🤔

The singers demand, in a case pending at the Lisbon Central Civil Court, 1,118,000 euros in compensation for damages allegedly caused by the video, arguing that it led to the cancellation of several shows, harming their professional careers and causing financial and psychological setbacks, as well as threats that extended to their entire family.
Yesterday, during the fourth session of the trial, Joana Marques was heard and expressed empathy for the Anjos for receiving hate messages, but she denied that the video she posted in 2022 instigated the comments.
“Unfortunately, they happen without much incitement,” Joana Marques stated.
She emphasized that the video’s intention was solely “to make people laugh,” explaining that the parts chosen from the duo’s performance at a MotoGP event in Portimão were those she considered “funnier” from a comedic point of view.
“When I made my edits, it was solely and exclusively to find the most comedic moments,” she highlighted, noting that the original video of the performance, allegedly affected by technical problems, had already been posted online by someone else.
Asked why she hadn’t removed the video even after two letters from the Anjos requesting it, Joana Marques responded that she interpreted such requests merely as “an intimidation.”

Proceedings continue in the case of the Anjos against Joana Marques. Today, July 11, in the fourth session, the comedian appeared in court and stated that her sole goal was “to make people laugh.” Witness Tatanka stated, “I don’t want to get involved on either side.”
