IKEA’s sales in Portugal grow 1.5% to 611 million euros

Globally, the Ingka Group, owner of the IKEA brand, reported sales of 38.9 billion euros.

The group’s fiscal year began on September 1, 2024, and ended on August 31 of the following year.

In Portugal, the IKEA team grew by 8%, reaching a total of 3,224 employees from 40 different nationalities. Women occupy approximately 52% of leadership positions.

During the last fiscal year, operational CO2 emissions from buildings and the fleet were reduced by more than half in Portugal, demonstrating that “business growth and environmental impact reduction are compatible and separable processes,” according to the statement.

Approximately 78% of Ikea’s deliveries nationwide are now made using 100% electric vehicles, and 91% of all generated waste was sent for recycling.

This year, Portugal was the first country to launch IKEA Pre-Owned, a platform for buying and selling second-hand IKEA products, which, in just over five months, recorded over a thousand transactions between customers. The brand assures that 10% of the furniture bought and sold second-hand is from IKEA.

Online sales accounted for more than 21% of total sales, but physical stores were strengthened with the opening of three new planning studios in Aveiro, Beja, and Guimarães, bringing the total to 16 locations in the country.

“We have proven that it is possible to grow, reach more people, and at the same time drastically reduce the emissions of our operations. It is confirmation that we are on the right path,” states Laia Andreu, Country Retail Manager of IKEA Portugal, in the statement.
