IL holds ‘rentrée’ today in Albufeira with Government as the focus of criticism

The ‘rentrée’ of Iniciativa Liberal (IL), titled ‘A’gosto da Liberdade’, will commence at 7:30 PM and feature live music, an outdoor dinner, and a closing speech by party leader Mariana Leitão.

Each registration costs 25 euros, with the total amount raised by the party directed towards victims of the Arganil fire, which caused the largest burnt area ever in Portugal.

Mariana Leitão, elected in July, will announce the party’s “priorities for the new political year” at the ‘rentrée’ and aims to demonstrate to the Portuguese that “a different country is possible, with governance based on liberal principles and maximum respect for individual freedom.”

Ricardo Pais Oliveira, the vice-president of IL, highlighted to Lusa that Mariana Leitão’s speech will mainly focus on four topics: housing, freedom of expression, fires, and the Government’s “lack of reformist ability” on issues such as the reduction of public employees.

Ricardo Pais Oliveira stated that Mariana Leitão’s intervention will be a “critique of the Government, contrasting with the proposals and ideas of IL, which have been presented and rejected” by the PSD/CDS.

This marks the fifth consecutive year that IL will hold its political ‘rentrée’ in the Algarve, a party initiative marking the resumption of parliamentary work after the summer break.

Last year, when Rui Rocha was still the party leader, the event took place in Quarteira, following previous events in Armação de Pêra, Albufeira, and Portimão.
