In a review of Sunday’s municipal election results, the IL secured nine councilors, 90 municipal deputies (including one president of the Municipal Assembly in Santa Comba Dão), and 178 representatives in parish assemblies, with three serving as parish presidents.
The IL elected councilors on its own lists in Braga (1) and Castelo Branco (1) and in coalition in Lisbon (2), Porto (2), Coimbra (1), Sintra (1), and Gaia (1). The party also secured presidency of the parish councils in Vila Nova (Miranda do Corvo) and Leomil, Mido, Senouras, Aldeia Nova (Almeida), and Campolide (Lisbon).
“The IL has elected members in all districts and autonomous regions, except in Évora,” stated a party spokesperson, noting that in Bragança and Castelo Branco, it ranked as the third most voted political force.
The aim of tripling the number of elected officials was surpassed, meeting the goal set by leader Mariana Leitão, who assumed the presidency of IL after the legislative elections.
In 2021, the party elected one councilor from Rui Moreira’s list in Porto and one parish president (Porto), alongside 30 municipal deputies and 56 members of parish assemblies.
Data from the municipal election portal shows that in isolated candidacies, IL independently secured 49 municipal deputies and 76 elected members for the parish assemblies.
Nationwide, IL presented candidacies in 89 municipal assemblies, 88 mayors (29 in coalition), and 558 parish assemblies (368 in coalition).
