The vehicle, set to be received by the Humanitarian Association of Ílhavo Volunteer Firefighters by July 31, boasts a capacity of 15,000 liters of water and 1,000 liters of foam agent for hydrocarbon fires.
It is also equipped with a high-projection fire monitor, advanced thermal analysis systems, explosive atmosphere monitoring, and communications systems adapted for explosion-risk zones (ATEX).
The vehicle comes with accessories for the containment of spills and chemical and respiratory protection.
“Acquiring this vehicle represents a significant advancement in protecting infrastructures, the environment, and local populations, enhancing the operational capabilities of the Ílhavo Volunteer Firefighters and allowing for a more effective emergency response,” explains a press release from the municipality of the Aveiro district.
The investment in the new special vehicle exceeds half a million euros and was made possible through a protocol established by the fire brigade with the City Hall of Ílhavo, the Port of Aveiro Administration, and companies in the chemical sector.
According to a press release from the City Hall of Ílhavo, “the project results from a joint effort between the Municipality of Ílhavo, the Port of Aveiro Administration (APA), and companies located at the Liquid Bulk Terminal of the Port of Aveiro.”
These entities signed a protocol in November to provide financial support to the Humanitarian Association of Ílhavo Volunteer Firefighters to facilitate the acquisition of the vehicle.
Under this protocol, the City Hall of Ílhavo will fund 100,000 euros, another amount will be covered by the Port of Aveiro Administration, while companies located at the Liquid Bulk Terminal will finance the remaining costs.
“The Municipality of Ílhavo, the Port of Aveiro Administration, and the companies of the Liquid Bulk Terminal thus reaffirm their commitment to safety and sustainable development, strengthening cooperation for the protection of critical infrastructures and the environment,” the press release states.
