A young man, aged 21, was arrested for illegally entering national territory by the Unidade de Controlo Costeiro e de Fronteiras (UCCF) of the Guarda Nacional Republicana (GNR), via the Immigration Territorial Inspection Unit of Matosinhos, on April 3.
According to a statement released by the security force on Sunday, the arrest took place at the land border in the locality of Quintanilha, in the municipality of Bragança.
“During a routine inspection, it was discovered that the foreign national was traveling by bus from Paris without presenting any valid documents to justify his stay in the national territory or within the Schengen Area,” the statement read.
“Given the circumstances, his arrest was deemed necessary,” the statement added.
The operation was supported by the Command Center of Bragança of the GNR.
The detainee was named as a defendant, and the case was referred to the Judicial Court of Bragança.
