An operation carried out by the Central Unit of Criminal Investigation (UCIC) of the Maritime Police, in collaboration with the PSP, has dismantled an illegal network involved in the reception and export of Japanese clams in the Montijo municipality.
The National Maritime Authority stated in a press release that the operation took place on Thursday, during which search warrants were executed, resulting in two individuals being identified as suspects for crimes of fraud, document forgery, and other offenses.
Approximately 400 kilograms of Japanese clams, a transport vehicle, a large amount of cash, and documents considered relevant by the authorities were seized.
The operation, according to the National Maritime Authority, dismantled another point for the clandestine reception and export of bivalves from the Tagus Estuary, thus reinforcing the fight against illegal networks that endanger public health, marine resources, and the legal economy of the sector, as well as the Maritime Police’s commitment to citizen safety.
