A 47-year-old man was arrested last Saturday, April 26, after assaulting and attempting to kill a neighbor in Amadora, the Public Security Police (PSP) reported.
In a statement sent to authorities on Thursday, the man indicated that the suspect was charged with a crime of attempted aggravated homicide and a crime of aggravated threat.
The crime occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Saturday when the victim was surprised by the neighbor while parking her car near her residence. According to the complaint, the man was holding a rock and ordered her to get out of the vehicle.
“Upon exiting the vehicle, the suspect allegedly approached her, immediately starting to physically assault her with blows to the face, causing the victim to be thrown to the ground,” the statement reads.
The man applied a chokehold and covered the victim’s mouth and nose, causing her to suffocate. During the assaults, he uttered phrases such as “I’ll kill you” and “It won’t go past today.”
The victim stated she was “on the verge of losing consciousness” and, according to the PSP, “more serious consequences of the aggression were averted” because another neighbor realized what was happening and came to the victim’s aid.
The man fled to his residence, where he was subsequently detained by PSP. The authorities gathered “sufficient evidence leading to his arrest for attempted homicide, for trivial reasons and with special perversity given the violence used.”
After being brought before the court for a preliminary hearing, the suspect was remanded in custody.
