The multidimensional festival centered on artistic experimentation will host both emerging artists and well-established creators, as announced by the organizers today. The festival promises a series of national premieres and debut performances in the capital.
The festival’s inaugural event will feature the play “[O Sistema]” by Cristina Planas Leitão at Teatro Ibérico. In this piece, Leitão delves into “the solidarity generated through collective work,” examining the concept of labor as a catalyst for action and movement.
On June 20 and 21, Pedro Baptista will unveil his premiere performance, “Pássaro de Fogo,” at Largo Residências, Jardins do Bombarda. Set against the musical backdrop of Igor Stravinsky’s work of the same name, the show provides “a portrait of the artist,” contemplating legacies and the cycle of life, death, and rebirth.
Joana Cotrim and Rita Morais of the collective O Clube present “Viagem a Lisboa” at the Black Box of the Centro Cultural de Belém on June 21 and 22. This theatrical production delves into the fictionalized familial past of the artists, intersecting with modern Portuguese history. The performance negotiates sociopolitical tensions, such as colonialism and racism, through the lens of a family narrative, with Lisbon serving as the focal point of this exploration.
“É só um dia,” a performance by Carolina Campos and Márcia Lança, invites audiences to “imagine fantastical fiction stories responding to the absence of a future,” scheduled for June 22 at Duplacena 77. The piece involves an “eight-hour live writing device,” intertwining written word and gesture to blur the lines between reality and fiction, resulting in unique performances each time.
“Bertie,” a VR performance by Rita Barbosa, will take place on June 26 and 27 at an undisclosed location. This immersive experience includes three performers in a video game scenario, with audiences able to watch the live transmission of their VR interactions through video projection, as outlined by the organizers.
The national debut of the performance installation “Ruins Part I: redux. realms. Regards” by an*dre neely and Liz Rosenfeld is set for June 27 and 28 at Teatro Ibérico. The installation explores the notion of ruin within political and social ‘queer’ resistance through a blend of research, film, performance, and writing.
For its 23rd edition, held across various venues, including Jardins do Bombarda and ZdB – 8 Marvila, Temps d’Images maintains its collaborative spirit. DuplaCena/Horta Seca produces the festival, with funding from the Direção-Geral das Artes and Lisbon City Council. Established in 2003, the event has showcased over 400 predominantly unpublished works by both Portuguese and international authors, spanning disciplines like performance, theater, installation, cinema, dance, photography, and music.
