A peaceful demonstration by immigrants near the parliament this afternoon turned contentious following the arrival of Chega leader André Ventura.
As the demonstrators were starting to leave the vicinity of the Assembleia da República, the Chega leader appeared to address the press.
At this moment, the participants directed chants at André Ventura, shouting phrases such as “fascist,” “racist,” and “Portugal belongs to those who work.”
André Ventura responded, stating: “You want rules, the law is for those who want to follow rules. The law aims to establish rules, we will not give up.”
