A Mercadona is set to arrive in Lisbon this Thursday, November 13, with the opening of a supermarket in Alta de Lisboa. The inauguration is scheduled for 9:00 AM.
“Mercadona will open a new supermarket in Lisbon on November 13, at 9:00 AM, on Rua Hermínio da Palma Inácio, in Alta de Lisboa,” the Spanish group revealed in a statement.
This new opening, they explain, “represents an important step in Mercadona’s expansion, as it marks the brand’s arrival in Lisbon, six years after the start of its expansion in Portugal.”
Mercadona additionally states that “this new supermarket will create around 90 new stable and quality jobs, with permanent contracts from the first day, thus contributing to local employment creation.”
Mercadona opened job vacancies for store operators. The aim is to recruit for the new supermarket set to open in Beja next year, announced the Spanish group.
“The new facilities will include a corporate office, complementing the office already open in Vila Nova de Gaia since 2020, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal,” stated the release.
The store “will have a sales area of about 1,900 m2, with wide aisles, allowing for comfortable shopping, divided between the sections of Charcuterie, Fishery, Bakery and Pastry, Perfumery, Butchery, Fruits and Vegetables, and Ready to Eat.”
“The opening of this new supermarket reflects the continuity of Mercadona’s national expansion plan, getting closer to the ‘Chiefs’ (customers) who have long requested a store in the capital,” it further stated.
Mercadona will open another store in Lisbon later this year. It is worth noting that this opening in Lisbon will not be the only one this year, as the Spanish brand plans to open another supermarket at Quinta do Lambert, in Lumiar, the company announced in April.
“This plan confirms that 2025 is the year Mercadona arrives in Lisbon, where it plans to open two stores. One store in Alta de Lisboa will also host a new corporate office for the company, complementing the one in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the company has its headquarters in Portugal. The second store will be located in Quinta do Lambert, in Lumiar,” stated a note released at the time.
Mercadona opens today a new supermarket in the municipality of Palmela, located on Rua de São Julião. The new store, the sixth in the district of Setúbal, generated about 90 jobs, according to the group.
