April to May is often a ‘rush’ period for the Portal das Finanças in Portugal, as many taxpayers look to submit their IRS declarations. If you’ve forgotten your access password, the Autoridade Tributária (AT) has outlined a simple solution.
On their Facebook page, the tax authority detailed the process, which involves sending an email to po***********@****ov.pt.
This request must be made using the email associated with your AT registration, linked to your tax identification number (NIF).
In the subject line, include: ‘Cancelamento de senha NIF [your NIF]’.
In the body of the email, you must also include your NIF, full name, and tax domicile.
“After receiving email confirmation that your access password has been canceled, you should register again on the Portal das Finanças using the option: ‘Registar-se'”, the authority advises, noting that “the new password will be sent to your tax domicile via CTT within an average of 5 business days.”
For further queries regarding access to the Portal das Finanças, you can consult this informative brochure provided by the entity.
