In Barcelos, Tavares accuses the Right of “bragging” before the elections.

In Barcelos, roosters, both live and ornamental, are abundant, as noted by Rui Tavares during his market visit this morning. Tavares humorously pondered, “What would be a big setback for Livre?”

“A significant setback would be reducing our parliamentary representation and having a smaller group than we currently do, as we have worked hard for the people to respect our work, aiming to grow and provide answers to the country,” stated the Livre leader.

To achieve this, Livre aims to elect deputies in districts where it has yet to secure representation, including Braga, Aveiro, and Leiria.

In other districts where representation is already established, such as Lisbon, Porto, and Setúbal, Rui Tavares is striving for more seats.

If successful, it would bring “great joy,” akin to “the crow of a rooster,” in his metaphorical phrasing.

When asked about specific numbers, Tavares refrained from speculating, citing superstition against setting targets, though he hinted at having a figure in mind.

He challenged, “Do the math, and you’ll see.”

Livre aspires to have a diverse group of deputies, creating “a beautiful chorus,” he noted.

However, Maria do Ceú, a vendor of fruits and vegetables, cautioned against parliamentarians “bickering amongst themselves.”

“Sometimes it looks like a henhouse over there, and that saddens us,” Rui Tavares agreed.

Dona Alzira, while tending to her egg customers, remarked that deputies sometimes behave like “boys speaking ill of each other.”

“I don’t like seeing things go awry,” she expressed.

Regarding a possible victory on the night of May 18, Rui Tavares refused to make any predictions, emphasizing the time still left before the election.

“We still have over a week to persuade people, listen, and learn from them,” Tavares noted.

Livre plans to campaign diligently to demonstrate to voters that a vote for Livre is a vote for progress and freedom, as emphasized by Rui Tavares.

With 10 days left until the legislative elections, the Livre spokesperson criticized the right-wing parties for “counting their chickens before they’re hatched,” suggesting premature declarations of victory.

“The right cannot count on the egg before the egg is laid,” warned the Livre leader.
