In Lisbon’s PSD/CDS/IL “there are no radicals.” The rival is the “PS of the geringonça.”

During the signing ceremony of the coalition agreement between PSD/CDS/IL in Lisbon, a candidacy led by the current mayor Carlos Moedas and held at the Unicorn Factory, representatives from the three parties spoke before the specific terms of the agreement were disclosed.

PSD’s secretary-general, Hugo Soares, stated that the coalition aims to be “much more than the parties it represents” and thanked the “many independents” supporting Carlos Moedas, emphasizing differences from the coalition led by Alexandra Leitão, which includes PS, Livre, BE, and PAN, without directly naming it.

“We know this is a modern candidacy, one with broad concerns and one that acts. I want to state clearly, there are no radicals here, only sensible people, moderate people who want to continue building Lisbon,” he declared.

Similarly, but more directly, CDS-PP vice-president Telmo Correia cautioned that the main opponent of the “Por ti, Lisboa” coalition is not “the PS in a new guise, seemingly more sensible and moderate.”

“It is the old one, the previous one, the worst version of the ‘geringonça.’ It is a PS united with the most radical far-left,” he stated.

IL vice-president Mário Amorim Lopes, the new partner in the coalition led by the current mayor, assured that other parties and Lisbon residents can count on the liberals’ “full loyalty and sense of responsibility,” but also on their demands, particularly regarding appointments.

“Lisbon must be the beacon of efficiency and transparency,” he said.
