The President of the Republic enacted the government’s decree on the transfer of powers, noting that the new regime is partly aligned with current practices and is expected to succeed despite ongoing legislative changes, as detailed in a statement on the official presidential website.
Since August 1, the online renewal of residence permits has become the exclusive responsibility of AIMA, shifting away from the Institute of Registries and Notaries (IRN).
With the enactment, AIMA is now also responsible for in-person services.
The Residence Permit Renewal Portal is accessible at https://portal-renovacoes.aima.gov.pt/, where each application is submitted by the applicants themselves.
