The incident in the Lezíria do Tejo region, as reported by the head of the Subregional Command of the National Authority for Emergency and Civil Protection, was caused by “fireworks that exploded,” resulting in “two minor injuries” who were subsequently taken to Santarém hospital.
Emergency services treated three other injured individuals at the scene, the source added.
The alert was issued at 10:42 p.m. on Saturday, prompting the deployment of 11 vehicles and 23 personnel from the fire departments of Salvaterra de Magos, Samora Correia, and Benavente, alongside the National Republican Guard (GNR) and emergency medical teams from the hospitals in Vila Franca de Xira and Santarém.
“The incident is nearing completion and is about to be closed. Despite the situation, it was not as severe as one might have thought,” the official told Lusa.
