The support to rents will reach 154,212 households this month, which will receive an average monthly amount of 100 euros, and will join the approximately 32 thousand previously identified, for a total of 186 thousand.
These data were referred to Lusa today by the Minister of Housing, in an interview that will be disclosed in full later and in which Marina Gonçalves says that the annual value of expenditure associated with this support will be around 240 million euros.
“There is a first wave of lease contracts, which has already been identified, in which support has already been paid to about 30,000 lease contracts, and now we will have the second phase that will allow us to reach about 180,000 lease contracts, which means about 186,000 families,” the minister specified.
In the first payments made, which corresponded to 32,115 households, the value of the monthly support (paid retroactively to January) was around 86 euros. “Now in this second wave [the value of the monthly support] is around 100 euros,” said the minister.
At stake is the payment of a support to tenants whose effort rate with the payment of the rent exceeds 35% up to a maximum monthly value of 200 euros.
In total – between the 32 thousand households initially identified and the 154 thousand now identified – the support will reach around 186 thousand families. A number that exceeds the 150 thousand initially estimated by the Government and that also makes the annual expense associated with the measure advance from the 200 million euros initially estimated to 240 million euros.
“This is a five-year program and, therefore, if eligibility is maintained under the current terms we are talking about 240 million euros per year,” the minister specified.
