“I can assure you that our institutions are prepared and coordinated, from hospitals and health centers to INEM, the Directorate-General for Health, the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge, and the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service, to provide the best possible response to the Portuguese people, from prevention to treatment,” stated Ana Paula Martins.
Speaking at a press conference at the Ministry of Health in Lisbon, addressing the rise in flu activity, the minister highlighted that in Portugal, similar to other European countries, there has been “increasing flu activity in recent weeks, already having a visible impact on health units.”
According to the Minister of Health, the “impact will be more intense in the coming weeks,” noting that the “flu season began about a month earlier than usual,” which may pose increased risk to high-risk groups, such as the elderly or those with chronic illnesses.
