“We presented a proposal that we would like to see endorsed by different parties, aiming for a 50% increase in an annual allowance attributed to them in three different categories,” said José Luís Carneiro.
José Luís Carneiro, speaking to journalists after a meeting with the leadership of the League of Combatants in Lisbon, emphasized the importance of maintaining and enhancing dialogue with this institution, highlighting the party’s proposed amendment to the OE2026, which will be voted on during the specialty stage.
When asked if he believes in the approval of this measure, the PS leader affirmed, highlighting the “justice of the proposal itself” and its “budgetary responsibility”.
“We are looking at a budget estimate of around 20 million euros, which we tried to present with budgetary implications over two different years. Half of this budgetary impact in 2026 and the other half in 2027,” he said.
According to Carneiro, the meeting also addressed the issue of revising the Former Combatant’s Statute.
“There has been progress recognized by the League of Combatants, particularly in the creation of the Former Combatant’s card, which allows access to a set of public services, particularly health services and free access to certain medication,” he emphasized, adding that improvements are needed regarding transport access with this card.
