Maria das Dores Meira, an independent candidate supported by the PSD and CDS-PP, won the Setúbal City Council elections on Sunday, defeating the historically dominant CDU, which was relegated to fourth place, according to data from the Ministry of Internal Administration.
The ‘Setúbal de Volta’ movement, led by the former Setúbal mayor Maria das Dores Meira, received 29.91% of the votes, securing four mandates, the same as the PS, which obtained 27.48% of the votes, as the results were finalized across the five parishes.
The third most voted party, Chega, enters the municipal executive with two elected representatives and 18.07% of the votes.
After more than two decades leading the Setúbal municipality, the district’s seat, the CDU has shifted from relative majority with five elected in the previous term to a single councilor, with 11.43% of the votes.
