The Lisbon Territorial Command of the National Republican Guard (GNR), through the Criminal Investigation Unit (NIC) of Torres Vedras, has named a 65-year-old man as a formal suspect on Wednesday, accused of theft and document forgery.
The suspect, known for committing thefts at gas stations and churches, was apprehended during a road inspection operation. The GNR recognized his vehicle, which was “previously noted for several crimes against property,” prompting them to stop him.
Following police inquiries, the GNR determined that the car had been involved in thefts at fuel stations and churches, and the suspect was found to have several “fake license plates,” which he employed to carry out the crimes.
Additionally, one of the stolen items from the churches was recovered.
The vehicle’s occupant was subsequently named as a formal suspect. The case will now proceed under the jurisdiction of the Judicial Court of Torres Vedras.
