Workers of Inditex across various European cities, including Lisbon and Viana do Castelo, mobilized in front of the giant fast fashion stores this Friday to demand a share of the company’s profits during Black Friday.
About 20 workers gathered in front of the Zara store in Rossio, Lisbon, one of the group’s largest stores.
The spokeswoman for these workers, Cátia Carvalho, noted that the company has significant profits which are not distributed among employees, she said in a statement to EFE.
The group also protested against the labor reform proposed by the government of Luís Montenegro.
In Paris, a similar scene unfolded as two dozen workers protested in front of a Zara store a few meters from the City Hall of Paris, on one of the city’s busiest streets.
In Madrid and Barcelona, hundreds of workers demanded profit distribution at a time when the company is expected to present results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, which are expected to set a new record.
Employees want their efforts to be recognized, a demand that has been repeatedly made by unions from different countries in meetings held by the European Works Council (EWC) that “has always been rejected by Inditex,” Beatriz Aliaga, the coordinator of the Spanish main labor organization Comisiones Obreras (CCOO), told EFE.
Protests also occurred in Belgium, Luxembourg, Italy, and Germany, though participation was minimal.

Inditex, the world leader in retail clothing sales, reported profits of 5.866 billion euros for the 2024 fiscal year, the largest ever and a 9% increase over 2023, the company announced today.
