The sole representative of the People-Animals-Nature party (PAN) in the Portuguese Parliament, Inês Sousa Real, emphasized the dual opportunity to “rescue the city” and potentially elect “for the first time a woman as Mayor of Lisbon.”
Sousa Real remarked that the “Viver Lisboa” coalition, which includes four parties (PS, Livre, BE, and PAN), is “the only alternative” to the alliance led by the current mayor, Carlos Moedas, which consists of PSD, CDS-PP, and IL. She urged voters to choose a Lisbon that is “resilient, sustainable,” and “clean,” regardless of past voting behavior.
The PAN leader highlighted the commitment of all “Viver Lisboa” coalition candidates to increase green spaces and ensure dignified housing. She underscored the necessity of making Lisbon “a city for younger generations,” with adequate student housing, and ensuring that “animals are not left behind,” as she claims happened under Carlos Moedas’s administration.
Speaking at the Casal Vistoso sports complex in the parish of Alto do Pina, “near a city forgotten and lost in tourist maps, belonging to the most vulnerable,” Sousa Real promised that the coalition would work on behalf of “the poorest to the middle class,” addressing gender inequality and homelessness.
The deputy, a native of Lisbon, expressed regret that community living has been “left behind” in the capital, now focused on “tourist routes and unicorns.”
In the municipal elections on Sunday, candidates for the Lisbon City Council presidency include, besides Alexandra Leitão, Carlos Moedas (PSD/CDS-PP/IL), João Ferreira (CDU-PCP/PEV), Bruno Mascarenhas (Chega), Ossanda Líber (Nova Direita), José Almeida (Volt), Adelaide Ferreira (ADN), Tomaz Ponce Dentinho (PPM/PTP), and Luís Mendes (RIR).
Currently, the municipal executive consists of seven members from the “New Times” coalition (PSD/CDS-PP/MPT/PPM/Aliança), seven from the “More Lisbon” coalition (PS/Livre), two from CDU, and one from BE.
