Infarmed orders the withdrawal of 7 batches of medication for heart diseases

The Infarmed has suspended the sale of seven batches of Bisoprolol medications, used for the treatment of heart diseases, due to the detection of an impurity exceeding acceptable levels.

This decision by the National Authority of Medicines and Health Products (Infarmed) follows Towa Pharmaceutical’s announcement that it would voluntarily recall seven batches of Bisoprolol toLife, 2.5mg tablets, and Bisoprolol toLife, 10mg tablets, “due to an analytical result exceeding acceptable impurity limits.”

Bisoprolol is a beta-blocker, a group of medicines that works by affecting the body’s response to certain nerve impulses, especially in the heart.

As a result, Bisoprolol reduces heart rate and makes the heart more efficient in pumping blood throughout the body, according to the medication’s package insert.

The medication authority urges entities possessing these batches in stock not to sell, dispense, or administer them, and to proceed with their return.

Infarmed also advises patients using medications from these batches not to interrupt their treatment and to contact their doctor “as soon as possible” to replace it with another batch or alternative medication.
