The list published by the National Authority for Medicines and Health Products (Infarmed), which now includes 21 more drugs than it did in October, covers antibiotics, medications for the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, epilepsy, opioid overdose, and vaccines against tuberculosis and hepatitis A.
This list of medicines, whose exportation is temporarily suspended, is updated every month. It includes drugs that experienced shortages the previous month and were deemed to have a medium or high impact on public health, as well as others supplied under Exceptional Use Authorization (AUE).
The export suspension aims to ensure the supply to the national market and applies to all entities in the supply chain, including manufacturers.
Infarmed monitors information daily concerning shortages, disruptions, and market withdrawals to identify and prevent critical situations that could threaten the availability of medicines.
The national medicine authority is part of the European network of contact points of the competent national authorities, the European Medicines Agency (EMA), and the European Commission. This network has been used since April 2019 to share information about supply disruptions and issues related to the availability of authorized medicines in the European Union.
