
According to France’s National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE), consumer prices in April rose by 0.5% compared to March, which saw an increase of 0.2%. This data was revealed in INSEE’s monthly provisional estimates.
The harmonized index of consumer prices (HICP), intended for comparing French inflation with that of other European countries, showed an annual increase of 0.8%, following a 0.9% rise in March. On a monthly basis, there was a 0.6% increase compared to the previous month, after a 0.2% increase from February to March.
Food prices in April saw a 1.2% increase compared to the same period in 2024, with fresh produce experiencing a significant surge of 4%.
This rise in food prices partly offset a 7.9% decrease in energy prices, which was a steeper decline compared to the 6.6% annual decrease recorded in March.
Manufactured goods experienced a 0.2% decline from April 2024, while services rose by 2.3%, maintaining the same rate as in March.
