The Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, today refused to comment on developments in Operation Influencer, which led to the resignation of the previous head of government, claiming that it is a “process that is ongoing”.
“I have nothing to add on this subject. It’s a process that is underway and we will await its development,” said Luís Montenegro at the end of the Council of Ministers, after being asked if he thought the Attorney General’s Office needed to give explanations about the case.
The previous legislature was interrupted following the resignation of Prime Minister António Costa, after it was revealed that he was the subject of an investigation by the Public Prosecutor’s Office before the Supreme Court of Justice, after a certificate was extracted from the criminal case Operation Influencer.
On Wednesday, the Lisbon Court of Appeal rejected the Public Prosecutor’s appeal in the Operation Influencer case, reduced the coercion measures for the defendants to a term of identity and residence and ruled that there was no evidence of crimes.
The case is related to the project to build a data center in the industrial and logistics area of Sines by Start Campus, the production of energy from hydrogen in Sines, and the exploitation of lithium in the district of Vila Real, in Montalegre and Boticas.
