Ingested “large amount of water”. Man assisted in Monte Gordo

A 58-year-old man received assistance from the SeaWatch project team yesterday afternoon, August 1, after experiencing difficulties in the water at Monte Gordo beach in the Algarve.

The National Maritime Authority (AMN) stated that at 4:20 p.m., a lifeguard on duty at the beach alerted authorities that a man had ingested a large amount of water and was in distress. Immediately, members of the SeaWatch project, along with firefighters from Vila Real de Santo António and INEM, rushed to the scene.

Upon arrival, it was found that the victim had been pulled from the water by lifeguards, who provided immediate assistance until the SeaWatch team arrived. The team stabilized the victim by administering oxygen.

The man was then evacuated from the beach using the Amarok vehicle to reach the Immediate Life Support (SIV) ambulance from INEM, which transported him to a hospital for further care.
