A prison guard received assistance from officers of the Public Security Police (PSP) while accompanying an inmate to São José Hospital in Lisbon, after the inmate became aggressive. The Prison Establishment near the Judicial Police of Lisbon has since expressed gratitude to the security force for their intervention.
The incident occurred two weeks ago, on July 27, when the guard was required to escort an inmate to the emergency department due to a self-inflicted injury.
In a note of thanks published on social media, the management of the prison explained that the support provided by the PSP officers was crucial in managing and ending the inmate’s psychological breakdown and aggression, which included causing damage to the clinical materials in the infirmary.
“The support was maintained until the inmate was removed back to the prison,” the note stated, with the management of the Prison Establishment and the heads of the Surveillance and Security Services highlighting the “commitment of the involved officers.”
