Inquiry opened after Alzheimer’s patient goes missing from hospital

The Local Health Unit (ULS) of the Tagus Estuary has launched an investigation following the temporary disappearance of a 74-year-old Alzheimer’s patient on Tuesday. The confirmation came from an official source.

The local newspaper Notícias do Sorraia reported that the patient went missing earlier today from the Hospital of Vila Franca de Xira. He had been admitted on Monday night following a fall at the nursing home he resides in.

A hospital source informed the newspaper that the man was under observation. At around 11 AM, a nurse sought him for medication administration, but he was missing, prompting his family and the hospital to notify the authorities.

When contacted, the ULS Estuário do Tejo, which encompasses the Hospital of Vila Franca de Xira and the primary healthcare network across five municipalities, confirmed in the afternoon that “the patient has been found and is currently under observation at the hospital.”

“The ULS Estuário do Tejo has opened an inquiry to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident,” they additionally reported.
