Inspection of agricultural workers ends with two arrests in Odemira

An agricultural worker inspection operation conducted by the National Republican Guard (GNR) in Odemira on Wednesday resulted in two arrests.

In a statement, the GNR reported the detainees are two men, aged 26 and 27, involved in illegal residency in national territory.

Overall, “580 foreign nationals, aged between 17 and 64, were inspected.”

In addition to the two arrests, two notices were issued for illegal residency, and 101 infraction notices under the legal regime governing the entry, stay, departure, and expulsion of foreign citizens were completed.

Additionally, 41 infraction notices related to road transport of agricultural workers were issued.

According to the GNR, the “operation was reinforced by the Beja Intervention Detachment (DI), Beja Traffic Detachment (DT), Moura Territorial Detachment, Portimão Territorial Immigration Surveillance Unit (NFTI), Coastal Control and Border Unit (UCCF).”

The Municipality of Odemira and the Authority for Working Conditions (ACT) also participated in the operation, drafting the necessary reports in their areas of expertise.

The facts have been communicated to the Judicial Court of Odemira.

This morning, the GNR announced it was conducting an inspection operation targeting agricultural workers and their transportation in the municipality of Odemira. 

A source from the Beja Territorial Command of the GNR told the Lusa agency that the operation began in the early hours of the morning and mobilized around 30 officers.
