Former Socialist Party leader António José Seguro’s presidential campaign announced that João Afonso, José Romano, António Vigário, Gustavo Cardoso, and David Xavier, all friends since their student protests against tuition fees in the 1990s, are supporting his candidacy.
These individuals previously participated in successive presidential campaigns for former President Jorge Sampaio and candidate Sampaio da Nóvoa.
João Afonso served as Lisbon’s City Councillor for Social Rights from 2013 to 2017, while António Vigário, president of the Coimbra Academic Association from 1992 to 1994, became a prominent figure against tuition fee laws.
Gustavo Cardoso worked as an advisor to Jorge Sampaio for a decade, focusing on information society and telecommunications, and was part of Sampaio da Nóvoa’s campaign leadership.
José Romano led Sampaio da Nóvoa’s campaign, and David Xavier was the financial manager for Sampaio da Nóvoa’s candidacy.
