The nationality law, which is set for preventive scrutiny by the Constitutional Court at the request of the Socialist Party, was a subject of discussion. The candidate recalled that, during its approval, he considered it “a mistake” to exclude the PS from parliamentary consensus.
“Laws of such importance should not bear the ideological marks of the moment. On the contrary, they should have broad support to represent the national sentiment,” he said, adding that, as President, he would evaluate “the decree specifically,” while maintaining the principle that norms expressing “constitutional values” should be consensual.
Seguro extended this position to the review of labor laws, highlighting the need for dialogue with workers and solutions to “concrete problems.”
“I have been cautioning against breaking social dialogue. I saw reports today in this regard and hope there are conditions for a good law,” he stated, advocating that changes should serve to “increase competitiveness, create opportunities for young people, and promote wage equality.”
The candidate also pointed out the lack of measures to combat wage inequality between men and women in the proposed discussion.
“It is a profound inequality, and we need to treat Portuguese women with dignity,” he said, urging for “wage equality to be a concrete objective” in the debate on labor legislation.
At the National Horse Fair in Golegã, where he was accompanied by his campaign representative for Santarém, Maria Alexandra Vicente, linked to the agricultural sector, and the local mayor, Seguro emphasized the importance of direct contact with people and valuing national traditions.
“This fair is an expression of the best we have: the Lusitanian horse, agriculture, and the opportunity to hear the citizens,” he concluded.
