
“Today, one of our brave has fallen in the line of duty. A military officer of the GNR. One of the many men and women who fight for our safety and freedom. My heartfelt tribute,” wrote António José Seguro in a message sent to the news agency Lusa.
Seguro expressed his condolences to the family, friends, and soldiers of the GNR and wished “a speedy recovery” to the three injured.
“Those who protect us deserve our utmost respect and recognition,” added the candidate for Belém and former Secretary-General of the PS.
A military officer of the National Republican Guard (GNR) died and three others were injured on Monday night following a collision between a guard vessel and a civilian one on the Guadiana River, a source from civil protection told Lusa.
All victims are GNR officers, according to the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.
“The alert for the collision was given at 11:21 PM, with no further details on the accident, which occurred on the Guadiana in Alcoutim, in the district of Faro,” stated a source from the Algarve Regional Emergency and Civil Protection Command.
On-site were 35 operatives, supported by 14 vehicles.
