“Intention was to kill,” says woman stabbed and set on fire by daughter

The trial at Braga’s court commenced with the victim recounting a history of violence by her daughter, who is currently 27 years old. The victim noted that her daughter has struggled with psychiatric issues since the age of 13 or 14.

“She assaulted me multiple times, destroyed plasmas, phones, and tablets, engaged in self-harm, and was violent and aggressive,” the victim testified, adding that her daughter was also battling drug addiction.

On the night of August 24, as the victim slept, her daughter entered her room, attacked her with a kitchen knife, and doused her with vodka and alcohol, setting her on fire with a lighter.

The prosecution alleged the defendant initially placed a vodka-soaked cloth over her mother’s mouth and nose, though the victim did not corroborate this in court.

The victim managed to escape through a window and sought help, eventually being transported to the hospital with burns and abdominal injuries.

“Her intention was to kill me,” the victim stated today.

The prosecution highlighted that the defendant had been under psychiatric treatment and suggested that she attempted to murder her mother in retaliation for lodging a domestic violence complaint with the GNR.

The mother mentioned that at the time of the assaults, her daughter was not taking her medication.

The defendant, currently in preventive custody, declined to testify.

The possibility of the defendant being declared legally insane is on the table, a determination to be reflected in the court’s decision.
