The SIAC, organized by the municipality, is now in its eighth edition and returns after a two-year hiatus, featuring a program that includes artist residencies, workshops, guided tours, performances, and interventions in urban spaces.
“More than 35 national and international artists are participating, from various fields such as painting, sculpture, engraving, photography, digital art, urban art, installation, street theater, poetry, and music, taking place in different locations including the Museum, city streets, the Chapel of Solar dos Póvoas, the Municipal Theater, among others,” the local authority stated in a note sent to the Lusa agency.
This year, the event is associated with the 85th anniversary celebrations of the Guarda Museum, which will be marked on the 30th.
The venue will host several exhibitions, notably ‘Panorâmica II’ by Filipe Rodrigues and Júlio Cunha, which will be inaugurated today at 6:00 PM, marking the Symposium’s opening.
Other proposals include a commemorative exhibition of the late Guarda sculptor Jerónimo Brigas; ‘Manuel Colmeiro: dry point engraving,’ loaned by the Museo de Artes del Grabado a la Estampa Digital Ribeira in Coruña, Spain, and ‘Guarda: places and moments only I know,’ organized by Arménio Bernardo.
Throughout the week, it is also possible to participate in an engraving course and a ceramics workshop, and attend the theatrical performance ‘Frei Pedro da Guarda’ by Pedro Leitão and Ricardo Augusto, at the S. Pedro chapel.
As in previous editions, SIAC continues to bring artistic creation closer to the public, with sculptors, painters, and other creators working live from 9:30 AM in different spots across the city of Guarda.
These artist residencies include participants from Portugal, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, and Cuba, whose works will be showcased on the 31st at the Guarda Museum.
The musical lineup features the wind trio of the Orquestra Clássica do Centro on the Sé terrace on the 27th at 4:30 PM; the Concentus Per Tempora Ensemble quartet on the 29th at 9:00 PM at the ExpoEcclesia space; and pianist Mário Laginha in the Guarda Museum courtyard on the 30th at 9:30 PM.
