The official from the Regulatory Authority for the Media (ERC) confirmed on Tuesday that “around fifty complaints” had been registered concerning the televised interview with the Communist Party (PCP) Secretary-General on March 24th’s Telejornal broadcast.
These submissions “will be evaluated by the regulator’s services in accordance with their Statutes,” the source mentioned, noting that “once a decision is made, ERC will, as usual, publish it on their official website.”
The PCP stated on Tuesday that they would file complaints with the ERC, the National Election Commission (CNE), and the Commission for the Journalists’ Professional License (CCPJ) about the conduct exhibited during the RTP interview with the party’s Secretary-General.
A day earlier, the Communist Party declared its intent to use “all legal means” against RTP, alleging provocation during the public broadcaster’s interview with the Secretary-General, as noted in a post on social media platform X.
The Secretary-General of the PCP was interviewed on Monday evening on Telejornal, in the context of the upcoming early legislative elections scheduled for May.
Throughout the session, Paulo Raimundo faced repeated inquiries regarding the PCP’s stance on Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the focal subject of this approximately ten-minute-long interview.
President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa announced that the early legislative elections would occur on May 18, following a political crisis prompted by the Government’s collapse after a failed vote of confidence in parliament.
