A 33-year-old woman was arrested by the Lisbon Metropolitan Command of the Public Security Police (PSP), through the Amadora Police Division, on July 16 at 6:50 PM, on suspicion of committing a crime simulation. The suspect pretended to be the victim of a robbery “to activate the insurance”.
In a statement sent to the newsrooms, the PSP explained that “on Wednesday afternoon, a woman went to the PSP station at Venda Nova to report that she had been the victim of a robbery the previous day, by a suspect who was allegedly an ‘UBER EATS’ driver -, who had stolen a high-end iPhone from her.”
Given the nature of the crime, the note continues, “the criminal investigation unit officers were activated to question the citizen and gather any relevant evidence for uncovering the truth.”
During the questioning, “after noticing several inconsistencies and a lack of descriptive details of the suspect in the citizen’s account, she was confronted and admitted to having fabricated the story to activate the insurance,” since “she had misplaced the phone”.
Following these statements, “the questioning was concluded, and she was detained, after all procedural actions were conducted, she was released and notified to appear in Court for the first judicial interrogation.”
