The Public Prosecutor’s Office has closed the preliminary investigation into former PS Secretary-General Pedro Nuno Santos, initiated in April, over suspicions related to the purchase of two properties, one in Lisbon and the other in Montemor-o-Novo.
The news was initially reported by CNN, which accessed the Public Prosecutor’s order.
The Attorney General’s Office had confirmed the “receipt of reports” at that time, explaining the preventive investigation was necessary to gather “elements.”
“Following the receipt of reports and in view of collecting elements, the Public Prosecutor’s Office determined the opening of a preventive investigation,” an official source from the Attorney General’s Office stated at the time.
These properties became subjects of controversy in November 2023 after Sábado magazine reported that Pedro Nuno Santos did not declare how he paid for a house valued at 740,000 euros.
At that time, when the socialist was already an ex-minister of António Costa’s government, the publication reported that his wife had paid 290,000 euros upfront and the remainder was covered by a bank loan of 450,000 euros, repaid in a few months.
